The shell has been authenticated by the german helmet expert Kelly Hicks to be a real.
On the left inner rim is stamped 'Q.66' and on the inner top of the dome of the shell is stamped what maybe 'F 1 4 3 -'. This was QC steel batch numbers from the factory.
It cannot be ascertained when the helmet was painted black however; the outside of the shell and the inner rim is painted black but the inner dome of the shell is painted green and where the black has been scratched there is green underneath the black which goes along with the history of such helmets where they were originally produced during the ww1 era and painted green and the germans were using these helmets initially due to low funds and putting masking over the lining and painting the helmets black therefore leaving the inner domes green.
According to Kelly Hicks the decals appear to be high quality replicas that were not put on in a factory but instead put on at a later time.
The decals are placed in the correct locations for the model and production location.
The liner is a replica.
